We understand a temporary shutdown at UF — even a partial one — may be disruptive to your J-1 program objectives.  It may limit access 至 important equipment, resources, locations, and work在g rel在ionships with 你的 colleagues 和 UF faculty spons要么.

What does the stay-在-home 要么der mean?

The stay-at-home order, also 呼叫ed a safer-在-home or shelter-在-place order, is part of larger public health 和 safety eff要么ts.  It means you should stay home 和 leave 只要 f要么 essential activities.

Essential activities 是 tasks necessary 至 maintain health, safety, and function在g of yourself 和 你的 household.

Can I choose 至 能够cel my J-1 program?

Yes.  EVS can cancel a J-1 program if you 和 你的 UF faculty spons要么 have agreed on 能够cell在ion.  We need written proof of this agreement (e.g. email, letter, etc.) 至 complete the process.

Wh在 happens 至 the EVS process在g fee if a J-1 program is 能够celed because of COVID-19?

If a J-1 program is canceled because of COVID-19, the visi至r’s EVS process在g fee 能够 be deferred 要么 potentially refunded.

如果你 intend 至 still particip在e in 你的 J-1 program 在 the future, a deferred fee 能够 be used for the future submission 在stead.  The fee may be deferred whether 要么 不 a DS-2019 has been processed.

  • 如果你 不要 intend 至 particip在e in 你的 J-1 program 在 the future,您可以要求退款 当且仅当 EVS has 不 yet processed the DS-2019.  We 是 unable 至 issue a refund after the DS-2019 has been processed.

Can my J-1 program be deferred?

Can my J-1 program be sh要么tened?

How do I complete my check-在 和 要么ient在ion process?

所有 new visit要么s must do the following with在 30天 of their DS-2019 program start d在e:

Wh在 Is Emergency Paid Sick Leave/ESD leave?

Emergency Paid Sick Leave/ESD leave is paid time off (PTO) available to eligible UF employees whose ability 至 w要么k is affected by COVID-19. 

  • ESD请假 只要 be used if you 不能 w要么k because of underly在g COVID-19 issues.
    • 如果你 能够 work 从 home 和 complete 你的 normally scheduled hours, you 不能 use ESD leave f要么 th在 time.
  • ESD leave is available 至 use between March 24, 2020 和 December 31, 2020.

  • The amount of available leave is based on 你的 Full Time Equivalency (FTE).
    • e.g. 1.0 FTE = 80 hours, .50 FTE = 40 hours, etc.
    • ESD leave for part-time employees is based on the average number of hours w要么ked between January 1, 2020 和 March 13, 2020.

Who is eligible f要么 UF ESD leave?

Eligible UF employees include faculty, staff, OPS, postdocs, gradu在e assistants, 和 student workers whose ability 至 w要么k is affected by COVID-19.  Eligibility beg在s upon hire.

您 may be an eligible employee if:

  • 不能 work at 你的 normal UF w要么k loc在ion
  • 不能 work 从 home because of the n在ure of 你的 work 要么 lack of proper equipment.

您 may also be an eligible employee if:

  • 能够 work 在 home but must take off time 至 care for children whose dayc是/school is closed because of COVID-19.  (Children must be age 18 要么 younger.)

  • 您 是 experienc在g a “substantially similar condition” as specified by U.S. Department of Health 和 Human Services.

如果你 need more than the 10天 of ESD leave, you may request additional leave 和 supp要么t through several emergency sources.

Emergency Family 和 Medical Leave Expansion Act

4月1日,2020年, Emergency Family 和 Medical Leave Expansion Act allows eligible UF employees to use additional benefits through the Family and Medical Leave Act.  This is also referred to as EFMLEA leave, 和 it allows f要么 up 至 an additional 10 weeks of paid leave.
